LABOR DAY AMONG ART, SPORTS, FOOD AND A SWORD IN THE STONE

Labor Day’s bridge falling on a Wednesday will allow you to choose whether to take vacation the two days before or the two days after, collecting five days off in both cases. Your project manager won’t be able to deny you some healthy and well-deserved rest! If, you really have to work at La Pampa Parking Area & Camp, the Wifi gets good reception.

DAY 1 – Lesson at Kite Beach Fiumara surf school.

Let’s get off to a frothy start with a kite or wind surfing trip. The beaches of Maremma, thanks to their conformation and the constant presence of wind, are the best in Tuscany and among the best in Italy for this sport. Leaving the campsite you can easily reach the Kite Beach Fiumara school for a lesson or for equipment rental. If, on the other hand, you are lazy, don’t worry! Relax under their beautiful umbrellas and try a typical local cocktail, the Cuba libre 🙂

DAY 2 – Camper visit to Orbetello and Monte Argentario’s beaches

We move on to the lagoon surrounding Orbetello, a town rich in architectural treasures. Entering the town, the Antico Mulino, a witness to Spanish domination, and the imposing Etruscan walls welcome visitors. If the temperature permits, don’t miss a swim at Monte Argentario’s most famous beaches: Giannella Beach, Feniglia Beach and Osa Beach.

Parking the van in Orbetello:
Free parking In Via Giovanni Falcone, next to the Coop and close to the bike path from Orbetello to Feniglia. The center can be reached on foot after about a 20-minute walk.

DAY 3- Camper visit to The Tarot Garden open-air museum

Today we visit the Parque Guell of Tuscany: the Tarot Garden!
The sculptures inspired by the major arcana of the Tarot, with their intense colors and original shapes, are the work of French artist Niki de Saint Phalle who started in 1979 and dedicated more than seventeen years to the construction of the twenty-two imposing sculptures. Throughout this time, Niki was assisted by a team that included some influential contemporary artists of the 20th century as well as her husband, Jean Tinguely.

DAY 4 – Culinary and other explorations to the city of Grosseto

A truly fortified citadel enclosed by the Medici Walls. The most interesting monuments are: a majestic late 13th-century cathedral with its beautiful baptismal font; San Pietro’s church; San Francesco Gothic-Franciscan church; and the Archaeological and Art Museum.

According to Il Sole24Ore ranking, Grosseto ranks second in Italy for the number of restaurants per thousand inhabitants. Therefore, a stop at one of the city’s restaurants is a must, where you can taste some of the local recipes and products such as tortelli maremmani or acquacotta.

DAY 5 – Camper visit to the ancient Abbey of San Galgano, the Hermitage of Montesiepi and the Sword in the Stone

About 67 km from Grosseto we encounter one of the most striking sights in Tuscany-the 13th-century Gothic-style abbey of San Galgano. Only the walls and apse remain standing of the abbey; legend tells that the roof built entirely of lead was sold in 1500 by Girolamo Vitelli. Short story, thanks to Girolamo’s stinginess today we can take very popular Instrgam pictures.

You can reach the Hermitage of Montesiepi by walking 10 minutes along a dirt path beside the Abbey. The hermitage was built on the site of St. Galgano’s hut back in 1100. Tradition has it that St. Galgano’s first miracle aka Galgano Guidotti, a former knight who retired as a hermit, was to plant a sword in the rock which is now constudated in the center of the hermitage.

Montesiepi Hermitage is open daily from 9 a.m. to sunset.
Admission is free but it is forbidden to attempt to draw a sword!

On the way back we suggest you stop in Boccheggiano village of 300 that holds a precious gem of Tuscan cuisine, La Ciottolona. Sophisticated dishes in presentation, excellent raw materials, simple and cozy location. Amazing desserts as well!
